  • The celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian unity was an opportunity for me to reflect on how the country has changed and what it has become after several decades of migration has had an effect on citizenship. However, let us not forget that migration has been part of the human condition throughout history.

Nowadays, can we really tell where somebody comes from just by looking at them? Perhaps in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, we were surer of people’s origin by their appearance. German tourists looked German. Arabs appeared Arabic to us. We knew that black people came from Africa but not necessarily what part of the continent.
However, today, it seems as if an alchemist has blended us all together.

To remedy this misinterpretation, I have created portraits of 150 Italian citizens in front of a background similar to the Italian tricolor flag.
This is an exhortation to not judge people at first glance but to look at them with curiosity and perhaps even wonder.
